SINCE 1946
Our history
With a wealth of experience and expertise, O’Donnell Hennessy & Co has been a leading regional Chartered Accounting, Taxation & Auditing firm since 1946 with offices in Wollongong and Nowra.
The firm’s name “O’Donnell Hennessy & Co” (ODH) is derived from the original founding directors Francis (Frank) Joseph O’Donnell and John (Jack) Aneas Hennessy.
Frank returned from the Second World War in 1946 as a qualified chartered accountant, purchased a small parcel of fees from sole operation in Wollongong and founded the firm shortly thereafter with Jack Hennessy who was previously a cost accountant and a qualified chartered accountant when he joined ODH.
James (Jim) Kevin O’Donnell, Frank’s brother, and Ronald (Ron) Hough joined Frank in 1951, both qualifying as directors soon after. Frank left the firm later, working as a sole operator almost until his death, always having very strong links with the firm he co-founded.
Jim remained a partner for over 35 years retiring in 1987. Ron and Jack remained with the firm until 1994 when both retired after serving over 42 years with ODH.
In 1980, Karl Taylor, who continues his service to ODH, was admitted as director. Current partner Spencer Green became a director in 2004.
On the 31st of March 2012, after 32 years as a director of O’Donnell Hennessy & Co, Karl Taylor decided it was time to step down. Karl still maintains an involvement with the firm as a consultant.
On the 1st of July 2017 Angela Wang who had been with the firm for over 10 years came in as a director of the firm. Angela had been the audit manager for the firm for a number years and it was time to take a leadership position alongside current director Spencer Green.
On the 4th of February 2020 Spencer Green and Angela Wang made the decision to change the firms trading name to O’Donnell Hennessy Taylor (ODHT) in honour of Karl Taylor’s 50 years with the firm.
On the 1st of July 2021, after 3 years as a senior accountant of the firm, Peter McKell became a director of the firm.
On the 1st July 2023 Ted Wang became a director, after 5 years at the firm as a senior accountant.
Currently the firm has 4 directors, 8 accountants and 2 office staff across 2 locations.
